about

When American guitarist Garrett Bagby told his Australian mates that he would soon be returning to live in the USA, guitarist Brad Simpson and myself, bass player Bret Hann decided with Garrett that we should create a memento of our close musical friendship. Enlisting the talents of Jack Thomson on drums, Peter Nikolic on keyboards and Cosie Annese on vocals, we set about a crash course in songwriting. Our aim was to write and record three songs and perform four songs live before Garrett left us. A band from nothing to recording and performing original music in ten weeks seemed an interesting challenge.
In ten three hour writing sessions and one weekend of recording, this group of musicians, some of whom had never met, became in my eyes a damn good band with a lot of musical potential.
Considering the obstacles overcome it still amazes me that we were able to develop these songs to the point that you hear them now. All three songs were tracked during one weekend at Sixstrings Studio near Bridgewater in the Adelaide Hills and mixed by Engineer/Producer Anthony Scott during the following two weeks.

On the 26th of February 2010 88MPH did its one and only full live performance.
Playing with The Smokin’ Crocs at the Brahma Lodge Hotel in the Northern area of Adelaide. Many thanks to the Crocs for their patience and support.
Four songs were played and the show was recorded and videoed. If you would like a copy of either the CD or the DVD of this show please email 88mph@frog-host.net.

It was an intense, sometimes frustrating but ultimately gratifying ten week journey. There were many people who helped make this project possible but none more important to its existence than Garrett. If he wasn’t returning to the US then this collection of songs would certainly not exist. I speak for everyone involved in wishing Garrett all the best in the future and saying “Thanks for the music”.

To you the listener, we hope you enjoy these songs as much as we have enjoyed creating them.
